Welcome Back to School

As excitement builds for the start of the 2026-2027 school year, Washington District Elementary is preparing to welcome students and families back for another year of learning, growth, and success. This year, our school community is embracing one powerful word: Intentional. This will guide students, staff, and families as they work together to make every day meaningful.

Being intentional means making choices with purpose. Throughout the school year, Roadrunners will be encouraged to make positive decisions that support their academic achievement, attendance, and behavior. By focusing on small, purposeful actions each day, students can accomplish great things and continue to grow into the best version of themselves.

This year's focus includes three key areas:

  • Be Academically Intentional by giving your best effort every day and embracing challenges as opportunities to learn and grow.

  • Be Intentional in Attendance by arriving at school on time each day and striving for at least 95% attendance each month.

  • Be Intentional with Behavior by demonstrating respect, responsibility, and safety while contributing to a positive school environment.

Students and families are invited to kick off the new school year by attending Open House on Monday, August 17, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet teachers, visit classrooms, and prepare for a successful first day of school.

Additional important dates to remember include:

  • August 20: First Day of School for Kindergarten through Grade 5 (full day of instruction)

  • August 24: First Day of School for Pre-K (full day of instruction)

Washington District Elementary encourages families to stay connected throughout the year by using the Canvas app for classroom updates, the Upshur Strong app for school notifications, regularly visiting the school website, and checking students' daily folders for important information.

As families prepare to begin the year, it is important to know that he school will provide supplies, but your child may want to bring:

  • a backpack

  • a water bottle

  • personal headphones

Staff also ask that every child bring a full change of clothes to keep in their locker in case they are needed.

At Washington District Elementary, learning is a partnership between school and home. With the support and involvement of families, the school looks forward to celebrating achievements, overcoming challenges, and creating a school year filled with growth, joy, and unforgettable memories.

The Washington District Elementary staff is excited to welcome all Roadrunners back and looks forward to an outstanding 2026-2027 school year!
